What it does

One clip, and the recipe is yours

Simmer reads the open recipe markup that food sites already publish — the same standard search engines use — and turns any page into a clean, cookable card. When a page has no markup at all, it falls back to reading the post like a human would.

Import by link

Paste any recipe URL — title, ingredients, steps, photo and times are pulled automatically. Paste several URLs at once (one per line) and assign them a collection or tags in the same step. Simmer reads the standard format, plus older microdata sites, printable pages, sites laid out as plain numbered steps, and falls back to a site's print view when the main page is blocked — it even follows the link when an article just talks about a recipe instead of hosting it.

Cooking blogs

Even with no markup at all, Simmer finds the recipe inside a blog post — isolating the method chapter, pulling every ingredient group (“for the icing”), skipping the chit-chat and comments, and offering you the page's photos.

Video recipes

Drop a TikTok, Instagram or YouTube link and Simmer parses the caption into ingredients and steps, flagged for a quick check.

Write & edit

Type a recipe by hand, or fix up any import — title, servings, prep, cook and total times, description, your own note, ingredients, steps and photo. Your edits stick, and nothing else on the card is lost.

Smart shopping list

Add a recipe's ingredients — matching quantities merge, and every item is translated into your language. Group by aisle or by recipe, skip what's in your pantry, and share as ready-to-send text.

Cook mode & timers

A fullscreen, step-by-step view that keeps the screen awake. Durations become one-tap timers you can run in parallel.

Nutrition, always

Shows the per-serving facts a site publishes. When there are none, Simmer estimates them from the ingredients — clearly labelled “estimated”.

Yours, and private

Extraction runs on the device — nothing goes to a server. Optional iCloud or Google Drive sync keeps your library on every device.

Scale, convert, translate

Change the serving count and quantities recompute. Switch metric/imperial, and translate a foreign recipe into your language. A standalone converter also handles weight, volume and oven temperature — including a gas-mark/thermostat table in °C and °F.

Import, export, scan

One “Import a file” entry, and Simmer works out the format on its own — Paprika, Cooklang, JSON-LD, PDF, saved web page, Word document, photo or a full backup. Photograph a book page and it reads two-column layouts — even culinary-school cards where the quantity trails the ingredient name in a table: quantities stay with their ingredient, groups (“the filling”, “the royal icing”) are kept, and servings and times are picked up. A PDF booklet with several recipes — one per page, like a course handout — is automatically split into separate recipes. You can also share a file (HTML, JSON, PDF, Word…) straight from another app into Simmer — same automatic detection. Export to Paprika, PDF, Markdown and more, signed with your author name, with a choice to include photos or leave out the ones from a remote link.

Share & swap recipes

Send any recipe to a friend — export it as Paprika, Cooklang, JSON-LD, PDF or text and share it anywhere. They import it in one tap. Perfect for swapping family favourites.

Who you cooked for

Tick “I cooked this”, pick the date and your guests — several at once — and Simmer keeps the record. The Guests page shows everyone you’ve had over, when they last came, a note for each of them (allergies, tastes), and every dish you served them. On a recipe, the “cooked N times” counter opens the full history.

Organise your way

Tags and collections (auto-suggested from content), favourites, your own photos of the result — kept in the app’s gallery, saved to your phone’s gallery too, and included in your backups — ratings and notes, plus a home-screen widget. Search runs across titles, sites, ingredients and steps, and ignores accents. Sort the feed by most recent, recipe name, site name, times opened or times cooked. Select several recipes at once to print, share, export or delete them in one go.

Meal planner & pantry

Assign recipes to a rolling 7-day plan, then turn the whole week into a shopping list in one tap — already checked against what's in your pantry.

At home on the desktop

Mac, Windows and Linux get the same library in a real resizable window — menu bar commands, keyboard shortcuts (⌘N for a new recipe) — not a stretched phone screen.

Privacy

Built to stay private, works without an account

A recipe app shouldn't need your login or ship your cooking to a server. Simmer doesn't.

On-device extraction. The page's public markup is read locally — no recipe is sent to a Kinevia server.

On-device AI. Structuring unmarked pages, videos and photos runs on the phone, not in the cloud.

Estimated nutrition is honest. Always marked as an approximation from the ingredients — not medical advice.

Sync is optional. iCloud and Google Drive are off until you turn them on, and go through the provider's encrypted storage.
